Woman dies after motorcycle crash on Hwy. 58 in SLO County

An Oxnard woman died in a crash Saturday after her motorcycle drifted into the path of an oncoming pickup truck on Highway 58 east of Santa Margarita.

Around 1:46 p.m., 52-year-old Peggy Masuda was traveling on a 2007 Harley Davidson Softail motorcycle southbound on Highway 58 north of West Pozo Road at an unknown speed. Meanwhile, 74-year-old Danny Oster was driving a Ford Raptor northbound on the same route at 35 mph.

“For reasons still under investigation, the rider of the Harley Davidson drifted over a set of double yellow lines which delineate the northbound and southbound lane,” the California Highway Patrol said in a news release. “As a result, the rider drifted directly into the path of the Ford.”

The driver of the Ford received minor injuries and was not transported to a hospital.

Masuda was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo and later pronounced dead due to the injuries from the crash, the release said.

CHP does not suspect impairment from drugs or alcohol, but the collision is still investigation.
