Woman dies in NJ Turnpike accident in Cranbury

New Jersey State Police are investigating an accident on Saturday night which killed a 29-year-old Hamilton man when his motorcycle collided with a four car pile-up on the New Jersey Turnpike.

CRANBURY - State police are investigating an early morning motor vehicle crash that killed a 29-year-old woman on the New Jersey Turnpike, said State Trooper II Charles Marchan, NJSP spokesperson.

State troopers responded to the area at 3:28 a.m., he said.

Based on a preliminary investigation, a BMW vehicle and a Mercedes passenger car were traveling on the turnpike's inner roadway milepost 71.1. The Mercedes struck the rear of the BMW and the BMW then traveled off the roadway to the right and struck a guardrail, Marchan said. The Mercedes overturned and struck a guardrail.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 29-year-old woman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was ejected and suffered fatal injuries. Identification is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, Marchan said.

The passenger of the Mercedes suffered serious injuries and the driver of the BMW suffered minor injuries, he added.

The crash remains under investigation. Marchan said.
