PEORIA − A Peoria woman has died after being involved in an accident Wednesday afternoon near the Hy-Vee grocery store at The Shoppes at Grand Prairie.

The wreck occurred at 4:22 p.m. in the 7700 block of North Orange Prairie Road, according to the Peoria Fire Department.

Officers responded to the two-vehicle accident and found the driver of an SUV ejected and in critical condition. The driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead, Amy Dotson, of the Peoria Police Department, said.

Initial information gathered at the scene indicated the driver was going west on American Prairie and was going to make a turn onto Orange Prairie and collided with a second SUV, which was headed south on Orange Prairie, Dotson said.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the deceased as 38-year-old Martisha S. Bell. He said she was pronounced dead at 5:05 p.m. at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He said Bell was unrestrained and suffered multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
