A woman dies in the third fatal head-on collision in Davidson County in past two weeks.

A 52-year-old woman from Belews Creek was killed in a head-on collision on North Carolina Highway 109 in Davidson County on Monday.

According to information provided by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, at 3:23 p.m. officers responded to a report of a traffic accident on N.C. Highway 109 south of Shady Grove Church Road near Wallburg.

Investigators determined a 2009 Chevrolet passenger vehicle, operated by Abel Abarca Solis, 47, from Charlotte, was traveling South on NC Highway109 when it traveled left of center and struck an oncoming Toyota passenger vehicle head-on.

As a result of the collision, the Toyota traveled off the road on the right and collided with a brick wall.

Solis and the two occupants of the Toyota were transferred to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center with serious injuries.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as Shanda Cromer Coley, 52, of Belews Creek later died from her injuries. The right front passenger Charles Eller Coley, 51, also from Belews Creek, is still in the hospital under an unknown condition.

Solis was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, driving left of center and no operator’s license. Law enforcement is still investigating the incident.

This is the third fatality in Davidson County by a head-on traffic accident in the past two-weeks.

On July 15, 84-year-old Lexington man died in a head-on collision on N.C. Highway 150 in Davidson County on N.C. Highway 150 just south of the West Center Street Extension exit.

On July 6, A woman was killed in a head-on collision with a North Carolina Department of Transportation dump truck on N.C. Highway 109 near Jesse Green Road.
