A Sunset woman has died after she was involved in a wrong-way crash on the Northwest Evangeline Thruway.

Faith Armond, 60, was driving north on the southbound shoulder against the flow of traffic. At about 4 p.m. Thursday, for unknown reasons, she swerved into oncoming traffic and hit a vehicle head-on in the 2500 block of Northwest Evangeline Thruway, which is near the Northgate Mall, Lafayette Police Department spokesperson Sr. Cpl. Matthew Benoit said in a release.

Armond was taken to the hospital but died in the early morning hours on Friday, Benoit said. The driver of the second car was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition. A passenger in that car also was taken to a hospital and is in serious but stable condition.

The crash caused that section of the thruway to close for about two hours.

The crash is still under investigation.
