Woman drowns in Lake Tahoe despite husband’s rescue efforts while 6 children are adrift on boat

A Texas woman drowned in Lake Tahoe in California last Friday and her husband and children were rescued with hypothermia after trying to save her.

According to KTSM, the woman, 30, her husband and their six children were boating in the eastern part of the lake around 5:30 p.m. on Friday. At some point the woman jumped into the lake to swim but became distressed and started calling for help.

The man jumped into the water wearing a life vest in an effort to save her while the boat with their children on board began drifting away toward the center of the lake, El Dorado Sheriff’s Office officials said.

The boat with the children was found several hours later around 9 p.m. when their calls for help were heard. The man was also found several miles away. The children and the man all were suffering from hypothermia and the man was transported to a hospital, according to the Tahoe Douglas Fire Prevention District.

The woman’s body was recovered shortly thereafter and attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.
