Woman fatally injured in fall from cliff at Central Coast beach

A woman was fatally injured Tuesday night when she tumbled over a cliff near Arroyo Burro Beach in Santa Barbara, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.

Firefighters, city police and other emergency personnel were dispatched shortly before 7 p.m. to a report of an injured woman on the beach about 300 yards east of Hendry’s Beach, fire Battalion Chief Jon Turner said.

They found the victim unresponsive on the beach and began lifesaving efforts, but she was declared dead at the scene, Turner told Noozhawk.

Witnesses told first responders that the victim, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, fell from the Douglas Family Preserve, Turner added.

“At this time, there is no suspicious activity believed, and the case is currently under investigation,” police Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale said.

Personnel from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner Bureau were called to the scene to collect the woman’s body and investigate the death.

Also assisting on the incident was the Santa Barbara Harbor Patrol.

The incident was the latest in a series of fatal cliff falls in Santa Barbara County.
