Woman found dead in alley, bound by arms and legs, Chicago police launch death investigation

A woman’s body was found tied up in a Near West Side alley and Chicago police launched a death investigation but have released few details about the case.

The woman is being treated as a deceased “Jane Doe,” after an anonymous caller dialed 911 about 8:30 a.m. Sunday to report her body was in an alley in the 2600 block of West Gladys Avenue, according to Kellie Bartoli, a police spokeswoman.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office, which had not released information about the woman’s identity, was expected to conduct an autopsy Monday to determine her cause and manner of death.

The body “was found tied up from her legs, arms and wrists,” Bartoli wrote in an email. Bartoli said she was unable to provide additional information as to how the woman was bound or with what type of material, citing an incomplete report.

Bartoli said investigators were treating the case as a death investigation.

Bartoli said the caller found the woman’s body after going into the alley to throw out garbage.

Police did not answer questions about the woman’s physical description, whether she was clothed or wearing easily identifiable clothing or if she matched the description of anyone previously reported missing.
