CHICKASHA — Police have opened an investigation after an employee was found dead Thursday at a gas station in Chickasha.

Around 7 a.m. Thursday, officers with the Chickasha Police Department responded to a call about an employee who "was passed out" at a Love's convenience store off North 10th St, about 45 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. Upon arrival, police said they found the body of Jessica Poteet, 32, in the women's restroom.

According to a news release from the Chickasha Police Department, surveillance camera footage showed Poteet posting a sign on the entrance around 4 a.m., notifying potential customers she would be cleaning the restroom. She then locked the door and went alone into the restroom, police said.

Employees for the next shift eventually arrived and discovered Poteet in the restroom. The store would have been locked for roughly three hours, according to police.

Chickasha police Lt. Gillian O'Brien said local police are partnering with the District 6 Task Force for "a thorough investigation" into Poteet's death. The chief medical examiner's office is expected to determine the cause of death.
