Woman who had double-organ transplant one of four traffic-accident fatalities

A woman who recently received a double-organ transplant was among four people who lost their lives in recent traffic accidents in South Jersey.

Ada M. Roman, 36, of Vineland was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a two-car crash in Buena Vista on June 24, according to New Jersey State Police.

The transplant patient was enthusiastic to begin a career as a certified nurse assistant, said an obituary.

"She was determined to achieve her life’s goal of becoming a registered nurse in the foreseeable future as she felt it was her way of giving back to her community," it said..

The obituary also described Roman, one of nine siblings, as "a compassionate, wholesome, selfless soul."

The accident occurred around 12:55 a.m. on June 24 at Routes 40 and 54, police said.

Fatal crashes in Cumberland, Burlington counties

Separately, a man died in a traffic accident in Gloucester County on Wednesday, June 28.

Two motorists were killed in crashes in Cumberland and Burlington counties on Monday, June 26.

In Gloucester County, Logan police responded to a crash with entrapment at Route 130 and Center Square Road around 2:40 p.m. Wednesday.

Police said a car on Center Square Road entered the intersection and hit a northbound vehicle on 130, causing it to overturn.

The driver of the overturned car, 85-year-old Raymond Hoffman Jr. of Penns Grove, was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

A passenger in Hoffman's car also was hospitalized, but that person's condition was not released.

The other driver, a 19-year-old man from Carney's Point, was uninjured, police said.

A 61-year-old woman died when her vehicle hit a building in Bridgeton.

Police said Maria A. Sorantino of Bridgeton was traveling westbound on American Avenue around 1:45 p.m., when her vehicle went through an intersection and hit a building on the 500 block of North Laurel Street.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Bridgeton police.

In Burlington County, a 35-year-old Tabernacle man died when his vehicle was hit by three trucks in succession, according to state police.

Rafael Colin Salinas was driving southbound on Route 206 around 8:50 a.m. when he stopped to turn left into a property, police said.

A tractor-trailer rear-ended Salinas, pushing his car into the northbound lane. The car then was struck by a northbound truck, then was pushed into the path of a second southbound truck.

The accidents remain under investigation.
