Woman had no interest in playing lottery — until she saw Corvette on game. It paid off

Although she walks past the vending machine often, a Maryland woman says she doesn’t normally play the lottery.

But she couldn’t resist when she spotted her favorite car on one of the games on Sunday, May 21, she told officials.

Her serendipitous decision to play Corvette Cash paid off big time — in the form of a $50,000 prize, officials said in a news release.

“I’ve always loved Corvettes,” she told lottery officials in the release, choosing to go by the name Baby Blue to tell her story. “They’ve been my favorite for as long as I can remember.”

She walks past the lottery vending machine at Giant #144 in Nottingham often, but rarely buys a ticket, she said.

“She had no intention of buying one last Sunday — until she saw the Corvette,” the release said.

She says she was nervous — “amazingly happy, too, but nervous,” — when she realized she’d won. She managed to keep a perfect poker face at work that day and didn’t share her happy news with anyone, officials said.

“I can’t believe this happened,” she said. “I’ve never been a lucky person.”

It’s only the second win of the brand new $5 Corvette Cash game, officials said. It debuted late last month with eight $50,000 top prizes.
