Woman hit by dump truck in Hillcrest

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 70-year-old woman crossing a road against a red light in the Hillcrest neighborhood was struck by a dump truck on Wednesday, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 3:46 a.m. at 1100 University Avenue and Vermont St., Officer D. O’Brien with the San Diego Police Department said in a news release.

A 52-year-old man driving a 2019 Peterbilt dump truck was making a right turn southbound onto Vermont St. when he collided with the pedestrian attempting to cross eastbound on University Avenue, according to authorities.

The pedestrian was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, while the dump truck remained at the scene.
