Woman identified after North Royalton fatal condo fire

NORTH ROYALTON, Ohio (WJW) – A woman who died after a fire broke out at a condominium complex in North Royalton on Sunday has been identified.

The North Royalton Fire Department responded to emergency calls at 2:45 p.m.

According to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, 67-year-old Valerie Cook was pronounced dead at 3:37 p.m.

According to North Royalton Fire Department Chief Robert Chegan, “After about 5 mins, [we] got into the back bedroom and found a victim.[We] pulled her out of the house, started treatment immediately, and transported her to Metro where she succumbed to her injuries.”

Two other residents were checked at the scene for smoke inhalation. One of those residents was eventually taken to the hospital for further evaluation, according to the fire department.

This fire is still under investigation.
