Suspect in custody following domestic-related homicide in Albemarle, police say

A man wanted in connection with a domestic-related homicide investigation has been arrested, according to the Albemarle Police Department.

According to the department, just before noon on Thursday, police were called to a home on Carpenter Avenue after getting a report of gunshots being fired. At the scene, police found 20-year-old MaKayla Davis dead.

Officers said the victim had been a part of a domestic incident moments before a witness reported hearing gunshots.

Friday morning, police announced that 20-year-old Byron Anthony Beckford Jr. had been arrested in connection with this case.

Beckford turned himself into the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He was later booked into the Stanly County jail.

The department says this is the first homicide in the City of Albemarle in 2023.
