A 68-year-old woman died over the weekend in a three-vehicle crash on Route 5 in Batavia, Genesee County.

According to a news release from the Genesee County Sheriff's Office, Maryellen Wilber of Batavia was driving a sport utility vehicle west on Route 5 Friday evening, when she drove over the center line and struck two eastbound vehicles - a pickup, then a Jeep. The crash occurred just after 6:35 p.m.

Wilber was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies said. The pickup driver was not injured and the driver of the Jeep was taken to Erie County Medical Center with lower body injuries, deputies said.

Deputies are investigating the crash.

According to The Batavian, Wilber was a community advocate and was heavily involved in the Friends of the Batavia Peace Garden and Business and Professional Women's Club.

The Bicentennial Peace Garden Trail on Sunday honored Wilber on social media Sunday, saluting her love of community and her tireless efforts to support causes she cared about.

"When MaryEllen advocated for your cause, there was no going back," the post read. "We honor her warmth, her sincerity, her dedication and her love of all she surrounded herself with. Go with the angels dear friend, you are in good hands now."

Her loved ones shared memories about Wilber, many noting her passion and enthusiasm and how she was always there for her family.
