Woman killed in crash, driver who was critically injured were from St. Paul
The people in a car that crashed in Linwood Township, killing the passenger and critically injuring the driver, were both St. Paul residents, the Anoka County sheriff’s office said Tuesday.
Law enforcement said they were pursuing suspected shoplifters in a Kia Sedan Monday when the driver collided head-on with another car. The people in the Kia — Jessica Lynn Sellers, 30, and Joseph Mario Cady, 41, were airlifted from the scene.
Sellers died Monday at a hospital and Cady was in critical condition.
The 59-year-old driver of the car that Cady struck, Debra Lee Hirsch of Wyoming, was taken to the hospital in serious condition, according to the sheriff’s office.
On Monday morning, an employee at Cartfull reported that a man and woman stole from the North Branch store and drove away in a Kia.
A Wyoming officer spotted the Kia and saw the driver go south on Interstate 35 and exit west on East Viking Boulevard. The officer tried to pull the Kia over at 11:01 a.m., according to police.
The driver continued west and attempted to pass another vehicle while rounding a turn in a no-passing zone, crashing into an oncoming Lincoln sedan at 11:02 a.m. on East Viking Boulevard near Typo Creek Drive.
The crash remains under investigation.
