Woman killed after in-law flips Jaguar into east Charlotte creek

A woman died in east Charlotte after her in-law crashed and flipped a car into a creek Saturday, police announced Monday afternoon.

When released from the hospital, Santario Demarcus Washington, 31, will face felony charges for death by motor vehicle and reckless driving, according to a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department news release.

The 2005 Jaguar XJ8 was speeding down The Plaza east of Eastway Drive at about 1 a.m. Saturday when it ran off the road and flipped into a creek bed connected to Briar Creek, police said. Police believe excessive speed and impairment led to the fatal crash.

Paramedics said Elizabeth Adina Washington, 41, died at the scene. CMPD did not say exactly how the two were related but confirmed they were in-laws.
