Wife killed, husband airlifted to hospital in Butler County motorcycle crash

A woman in her 60s is dead and her husband was airlifted to a hospital in a motorcycle crash in Butler County, according to law enforcement officials.

The single-vehicle crash involving the married couple happened around 6:30 p.m. in the 3000 block of Cincinnati Brookville Road (Ohio 126) in Ross Township, according to Police Chief Burt Roberts and Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones.

The 2007 Harley Davidson Road King was westbound when the driver lost control and it went off the right side of the road, sheriff’s officials say.

The woman, who was a passenger on the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene, the chief said.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office identified her Thursday as 63-year-old Susan Michelle Stoffer of Okeana, Ohio.

Her husband, 64, who was operating the motorcycle, was taken in a medical helicopter to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, Chief Roberts said.

The sheriff’s office says he has serious injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, including whether drugs or alcohol were involved, he said.

The Butler County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating.

Sheriff Richard Jones said it appears the motorcycle ran off the side of the highway for a reason yet to be determined.
