Woman killed, man injured by attacker in Phoenix

A woman was found shot and killed late Wednesday night near Eighth Avenue and Madison Street in Phoenix.

At about 8:10 p.m., officers responded to a call about a shooting. Officers arrived at the scene and spoke to the 911 caller who had head injuries, police said. The man told officers he was hit in the head with a gun by an unknown man, according to police. He also said his female friend was shot by the same person who attacked him.

Police said officers searched the area and found the woman with gunshot wounds. Medical aid was provided by officers until Phoenix Fire arrived to take the woman to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The suspect was outstanding and details about what led to the shooting were still under investigation, according to police. Anyone with information can contact the Phoenix Police Department, or Silent Witness (480-WITNESS or 480-TESTIGO for Spanish).

No description of the suspect was released.
