Police sirens

A woman was killed and a man was injured early Sunday in a crash on Interstate 80/35 eastbound between the Merle Hay Road and Northwest Second Street exits, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

The state patrol report on the crash said Kimberly Louise Barnhart, 40, died and William Owen Barnhart, 51, was injured. Both were residents of Pleasant Hill. The report said William Barnhart was driving a 2019 Kia Optima at 1:38 a.m. when it struck the rear of a 2024 Freightliner semi tractor driven by Christopher Jay Reese, 40, of Farmer City, Illinois.

The Kia flipped onto its top and came to rest in the center lane, the report said. Reese was able to pull his truck onto the shoulder and was not reported to have been injured.
