Woman killed, man injured in crash on I-275 near CVG airport

A woman was killed and a man seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash on I-275 near the airport on Monday.

The crash occurred just before 1:50 p.m. and shut down I-275 West for nearly three hours.

Kristina Yelton, 67, was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, where she was pronounced dead. Randy Yelton, 70, was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

The two, from Aurora, Indiana, were in a 2013 Kia Soul driven by Randy Yelton. Their vehicle and others were slowing down due to another crash, according to the Boone County Sheriff's Office.

A 2000 Ford F350 driven by Justin Cole, 35, of Hebron, struck the back of the Kia, according to investigators. The impact forced the Kia into the back of a UPS delivery van driven by Ryan Weinle, 39, of Moores Hill, Indiana. The van had also slowed down to nearly a stop before the crash. The pickup also struck the van and then the Kia and the pickup struck a guard rail, investigators said.

Cole and Weinle were not injured.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office Accident Recovery Unit is investigating.
