Woman killed walking on I-77 in Akron identified as Morgan Guice

A 29-year-old woman apparently trying to cross Interstate 77 in Akron was struck by a vehicle and killed Wednesday morning, according to Akron police and the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office.

The medical examiner's office said in a news release Wednesday morning that  Akron resident Morgan Guice was walking in the left lane of I-77 northbound near the Vernon Odom Boulevard exit (exit 130) around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday when she was struck by a vehicle.

Police later said  Guice had climbed over the median barrier from the southbound shoulder and was struck by a northbound vehicle while trying to cross the northbound lanes. The driver of the vehicle, a 64-year-old Akron man, remained at the scene and was not injured, police said.

Guice was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:05 a.m.
