Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol Marion Post are investigating a fatal crash where a pedestrian was struck just before 5 a.m. Tuesday on Marion Williamsport Road in Marion County.

Trudy A. Blevins, 53, of Marion, was struck by a 2003 GMC Envoy driven by Anthony B. Clark, 39, of Marion, when she was was walking in the eastbound lane of Marion Williamsport Road in the early morning, according to the preliminary investigation from the state troopers.

The GMC Envoy was traveling eastbound on Marion Williamsport Road and struck Ms. Blevins in the eastbound lane. According to Marion Post Commander Lieutenant Lance Shearer, his team is still conducting its investigation.

The Envoy then traveled off the left side of the roadway and hit a highway traffic sign before coming to a stop on the north side of the roadway.

Marion City Fire and EMS transported Clark to Marion General Hospital for precautionary reasons. The emergency crew also transported Blevins to Marion General where she was pronounced deceased.

Shearer said to always be taking precaution when walking on or near roadways, especially when it's dark.

"Make sure you're wearing reflective clothing. Have a light with you where someone can see you. Make sure you're not walking on the roadway, following the laws, staying off the roadway when you can," Shearer said.

"If you're not able to get off the roadway, make sure you're well-lit, that way somebody can see you."

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Marion Police Department, Marion City Fire and EMS and Kirby’s Towing.
