Woman leaps from Splash Mountain log mid-ride at Disneyland, video shows. ‘I can’t!’
An Instagram video shows a woman walking off Splash Mountain at Disneyland after apparently jumping out of a log mid-ride on the popular attraction.
“I can’t. I’m seriously having a panic attack,” the woman, who appears to be soaking wet, says as a rider in another log films her walking off the ride in the video posted Monday, May 29, by Fatima Yusuf Wright.
Wright said the incident happened the weekend before the video was posted, days before Splash Mountain, which features a 52-foot drop, closed Wednesday, May 31, to be refurbished as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, McClatchy News reported.
The video shows various views of Splash Mountain as riders move through an outdoor part of the ride.
“What the hell?” exclaims another rider. Others reply “what?” and “oh my gosh” before the video catches a woman walking down a pathway along the log flume.
“What are you doing?” a rider asks. The woman, fanning her face with her hand, replies that she’s having a panic attack as the log passes.
“Can you do that?” a rider asks.
“She just did,” replies another. The video continues, later showing riders briefly stopped inside Splash Mountain before the ride resumes.
“Felt so sorry for this young lady,” reads a caption on the video.
Splash Mountain, which opened in 1989, features animatronic characters and songs from the 1946 Disney film “Song of the South,” which has been criticized for reinforcing racial stereotypes, McClatchy News reported.
The new version of the ride will be designed around the 2009 film “The Princess and the Frog.” It will reopen in late 2024.
