Woman missing from Grand Forks Air Force Base found 'safe,' sheriff's office says
Jul. 13—GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE — A woman who went missing from a Grand Forks Air Force Base campground has been found safe, according to an updated Facebook post from the Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Hailey R. Sullivan, 18, was found around 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, July 13, near Gilby, North Dakota a press release from the Air Force base said. After a precautionary medical examination, she was reunited with her family.
"This reunion would not have been possible without the hard work and coordination efforts between our base Security Forces, Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Grand Forks Police Department's Unmanned Aerial System unit, Emerado Police Department, military members with their families and Altru," Col. Jeremy Fields, 319 Reconnaissance Wing Vice Commander, said in a news release Wednesday. "We are especially thankful for the public vigilance which assisted in locating Hailey. Good neighbors once again proved this is a wonderful community to be a part of."
Local law enforcement and the Grand Forks Air Force Base had been searching for the 18-year old military dependent since earlier in the week after she left the GFAFB campground sometime between Monday night, July 11, and early Tuesday morning, July 12, according to a news release. A base-wide search was also conducted on Tuesday for Sullivan.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Grand Forks Sheriff's Office posted on social media about a possible sighting of Sullivan near Gilby. The town is about 16 miles northwest of Grand Forks Air Force Base.
