Woman Rescued From Collapsed Home In North Philadelphia

DWAYNE FETHERSON: It's sort of like a freight train coming. A lot of wind.

DWAYNE FETHERSON: An earthquake.

UKEE WASHINGTON: It came just moments before a rowhome came crumbling down, sending bricks and debris into the street. We're live at the scene with the new concern in the neighborhood. This is Eyewitness News at 6:00 and we are streaming live on CBSN Philly.

Good evening, everyone. I'm Ukee Washington. Jess is off today. This is what the house looked like before the collapse, and here's what's now left after the bricks came crumbling down that red house in the middle. Our Matt Petrillo is at the scene with the latest on the collapse, a rescue, and the aftermath. Matt.

MATT PETRILLO: Ukee, the collapse happened around 3:00 this afternoon. Take a look behind me, you can see there is still a big mess left behind. That roof came toppling down, spilling bricks and debris all over the sidewalk and into the street. Neighbors telling us they thought they were feeling an earthquake when that home collapsed.

DWAYNE FETHERSON: Like a freight train coming. A lot of wind.

DWAYNE FETHERSON: And there was just a lot of dust and everything like that. Then we heard a boom.

MATT PETRILLO: As this home collapsed Friday afternoon, neighbors say Good Samaritans tried rescuing two men and a woman stuck in the rubble.

DWAYNE FETHERSON: They ran in to try to help her, but the structure next door just seemed like it was unstable.

MATT PETRILLO: Rescue crews say two men inside pulled themselves out, but a woman surrounded by debris had to be rescued.

DWAYNE FETHERSON: She was in her bed at home. She was in her bed, and the house collapsed. It's crazy.

CARL RANDOLPH: Special operations companies Rescue 1, Squad 72, along with Battalion 8 went into service. Found the occupant who was trapped, extricated this occupant. The occupant is now at Temple in stable condition.

MATT PETRILLO: L&I is now on scene trying to figure out what led up to the collapse. Meantime, neighbors are thankful everyone made it out safely.

DWAYNE FETHERSON: Thank God everybody's alive.

MATT PETRILLO: And there's also worried the wall of this next-door home could come down. Now, L&I is on scene right now, and part of this street is still blocked off, as crews try to determine what led up to this home collapse.
