A woman was rescued after falling down a cliff at Door County's Peninsula State Park

A woman was rescued after falling down a cliff at Peninsula State Park in Door County on Saturday night, according to a news release Gibraltar Fire - Rescue Association Inc. posted on its Facebook page.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Gibraltar Fire and Rescue was paged to the park for a woman who had fallen down a cliff near Eagle Tower. The woman is in her 30s, according to Sergeant Thomas Lemke of the Door County Sheriff's Office.

Upon arrival, it became evident that additional resources would be needed to "successfully extract" the woman from her location, the news release said. Assistance from mutual aid partners throughout the county was requested

"The location of the patient coupled with the rough and unstable terrain, along with the loss of daylight made this technical rescue extremely challenging," the news release said.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., the woman was transported by boat to an ambulance that took her to the Ephraim/Gibraltar Airport, the news release said. She was flown by helicopter for further medical treatment.
