Police responded to a vehicle accident Thursday morning in Chesapeake where two drivers were injured, one seriously.

Around 9:22 a.m., officers arrived at the intersection of George Washington Highway and South Military Highway.

At the scene they learned a gray Toyota SUV traveling westbound on Military Highway went off the road and struck a “small embankment,” according to a news release, and was sent airborne.

The Toyota collided with a tan Buick SUV stopped at a red light heading south on George Washington Highway.

Officials say the man driving the Toyota suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The woman driving the Buick suffered more serious, possibly life-threatening, injuries and was also taken to a local hospital.

The incident is currently under investigation.
