Woman shoots Brooklyn man, 71, in his home in botched robbery

A 71-year-old man was shot inside his Brooklyn home by a woman he knew during what police believe was an attempted robbery.

The victim told police that he knew the woman from “back in the day” and he would occasionally lend her money to help her out, according to sources.

On Sunday afternoon, the woman appeared at the door of the elderly man’s East Flatbush home on E. 48th St. near Lenox Road with another woman and asked him to lend her $5,000 to help a friend get out of jail, police said.

The victim, who initially told police he didn’t know the shooter, said he told the two women that he didn’t have any money, at which point he was shot in the chest.

The shooter and the other woman fled the scene in a black sedan and they are being sought.

The victim is in stable condition at Kings County Hospital with multiple bullet wounds.

Neighbors on the treelined East Flatbush block where the shooting happened were stunned by the violence, which they said had become more of an issue lately.

“It was very unnerving. We were very upset,” said a neighbor who declined to be named. “This happened so close to home and we have no idea what it’s about. We feel pretty safe in our neighborhood.”

The neighbor said the quality of life in the neighborhood had diminished in recent years, as the number of abandoned cars locally pile up, and newcomers loiter in the area.

”People walk through the neighborhood and it’s not as clean as it used to be. I think that if they would convert some of these spaces into affordable homes and you have families that could afford that maintain a better lifestyle. Passing groups of men just sitting out there was very unsafe.”
