Woman on sidewalk left critical after 18-wheeler crashes into car near Miami bridge
A woman was hospitalized in critical condition Wednesday morning after an 18-wheeler truck struck a car from behind, causing the smaller vehicle to jump the curb and smack the pedestrian on a sidewalk near the Northwest 27th drawbridge, Miami police said.
The collision happened at 7:22 a.m. at Northwest 27th Avenue and Northwest 17th Street, said police spokesman Officer Michael Vega.
The woman, who is about 70 years old, was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, Vega said. The car’s driver was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, Vega said.
Photos provided by police show a silver car on the sidewalk with extensive frontal and rear damage just south of a Chevron gas station and a bus stop, 1684 NW 27th Ave. A white 18-wheeler was stopped on the street behind the silver car.
