Woman trying to escape from pimp is killed by car on freeway, Texas cops say

A woman was hit and killed while crossing a Houston freeway early Sunday morning, ABC 13 reported.

While Houston police originally reported that Dejia Baxton was killed after getting out of an Uber, police said that she was actually attempting to flee her pimp.

On Thursday, Houston police announced the arrest of 29-year-old Deandros Finks on charges of murder and promotion of prostitution. Baxton was killed when she was frightened by Finks and ran away from him on the southbound West 610 Loop near the Westheimer exit, the Houston Chronicle reported.

“Ms. Baxton was attempting to cross the freeway when she was struck by a gray GMC Yukon XL,” HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sgt. P. Pham reported, according to the City of Houston. “The driver of the Yukon remained at the scene and was questioned and released.”

The investigation is ongoing.
