A trip to Florida for a California couple was supposed to be romantic, with the boyfriend apparently planning a wedding proposal, but it ended up with a missing person report.

Angela Morrisey and Amir El-Badry, both 23, were visiting Miami from Sacramento when Morrisey vanished on March 28, local station WPLG reports

El-Badry told the outlet that he last saw Morrisey while they waited to board a tour boat at downtown Miami’s Bayside Marketplace.

“We were in line for the boat and she went to go use the restroom and I just didn’t see her after that,” he told the outlet.

The Miami-Dade Police Department has not immediately responded to Oxygen.com’s request for comment; the official status of the case is unclear.

“I really came out here because I wanted a romantic setting because I was going to propose to her,” El-Badry told WPLG. Speaking directly to his missing girlfriend, he said, “I love you very much and I just want you to be safe.”

The couple shares two children together.

El-Badry, along with Morrisey’s mom, Darnella Melancon, says it’s not like her to go days without contacting her loved ones. However, the worried mother also cast suspicion on El-Badr’s story while speaking with the station.

“I continued to ask him because I was like, these details don’t make sense," Melancon told WFOR-TV. “So, I was asking questions about this and that, and he would be like, ‘Wait a minute, that’s what I said.”

She said her daughter stopped texting the day she disappeared.

“I’m hurting in my soul wondering where my daughter is,” Melancon said.

Melancon is currently watching her daughter’s children.

“I have her two daughters here, my granddaughters, and they’ve been asking for her every day. ‘Mommy, where’s mommy? When can mommy come?” she told WFOR-TV. “We want to talk to mommy.’ And it’s hard because I don’t really know what words to really say.”

Morrisey is described as Native American with black hair and brown eyes. She is 5 foot 5 inches tall and weighs around 145 pounds.

Anyone with information on her whereabouts is urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
