Elderly woman walking on Queens expressway fatally struck by Cadillac driver

An 82-year-old woman walking on a Queens expressway was fatally struck by a Cadillac driver early Monday, police said.

Lucili Osjo-Igbinoba was strolling along the center divider of the Cross Island Parkway near Linden Blvd. at 5:10 a.m. when she attempted to cross three northbound lanes of high-speed traffic, cops said.

That’s when a driver behind the wheel of a 2015 Cadillac Escalade smashed into the elderly pedestrian, according to law enforcement.

Paramedics declared Osjo-Igbinoba dead at the scene, cops said.

The 42-year-old driver of the Cadillac Escalade SUV remained at the scene and police do not suspect any criminality.

Neither the driver of the Cadillac nor any of his three passengers were injured, according to police.

Osjo-Igbinoba’s daughter could not say why her mother would attempt to cross the expressway by foot, explaining that she had no history of dementia but enjoyed going on long walks.

“When she’s bored she usually takes a walk,” said the victim’s daughter, who gave her name as Joan. “That’s all I know that she usually does.”

The victim, who raised eight children, emigrated from Nigeria in 2019, where she worked as a trader, her daughter said.

“She was a very nice woman. A nice mother. A nice grandmother,” said Joan. “I’m very sad.”
