Woman Wanted for Assault After Coughing on Baby in San Jose Store

The San Jose Police Department is looking for help identifying an assault suspect who was seen coughing on a one-year-old child in a stroller at a frozen yogurt business in San Jose, California, on June 12.

“The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect was upset the female was not maintaining proper social distancing, so the suspect removed her face mask, got close to the baby’s face, and coughed 2-3 times,” police said.

Video released by the police shows the woman, who was described as a “white female in her 60s,” gesturing at the child and the child’s mother inside the store before leaning towards the stroller.

In an interview with ABC7 the mother of the child said the woman approached her after she started speaking Spanish, and she believed the woman’s actions were racially motivated. Credit: San Jose Police via Storyful
