After woman's death, migrants pelt German police with stones

BERLIN (AP) — German police took several hours to recover the body of a woman from an asylum center in the Bavarian city of Regensburg on Saturday because more than 40 angry residents there pelted officers with stones and gas containers.

Regensburg police said in a statement they were informed of the 31-year-old Nigerian woman's death Saturday morning but that additional officers had to be called in from surrounding towns before they were able to enter the shelter around noon to retrieve the body. They did not say how many officers were involved.

The statement said the shelter's residents were highly emotional. Police said the woman leaves behind three children aged between 3 and 9. They did not give any further details on her identity and could not immediately give the cause of death.
