Woman's Doctor: Chemotherapy can weaken immune system

In many cases, chemotherapy can help shrink tumors or stop them from growing, but certain types of chemotherapy medications can also weaken the immune system, leaving a person vulnerable to infections. Mercy Medical Center oncologist Dr. Sandy Kotiah said there are simple things patients can do to care for their immune systems. Additionally, Kotiah said people should ask their doctor whether they should take any protective drugs to help boost their immune system or prevent infection.
