New all-women’s gym opens in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Beach Babes, an all-women’s gym opened last week in Myrtle Beach.

Valerie Reyes, the gym’s owner, has lived in Myrtle Beach for 21 years and said this was 5 years in the making.

Reyes said she’s always wanted to open an all-women’s gym. She had a business before Beach Babes, but said she needed to expand.

“They found me this huge building, as is, so I could do anything to the inside of it I wanted to, I was like, ‘yes,'” she said. “So, that’s where I got this space and how big it is, I put together.”

Reyes explained how she came up with the name.

“I love where I live, so that’s why I named it Beach Babes, because my LLC is Myrtle Beach Pole, so I had to have a spin off on Myrtle Beach Pole,” she said. “So, let’s keep the word beach in it and call it Beach Babes, because that’s what everybody wants to look like at the beach, right? A beach babe.”

Beach Babes offers many types of classes including meditation and mindful movement, double- and single-point bungee, a lyrical dance class and much more.

The double- and single-point bungees are meant for people with joint and mobility issues.

“So, you are suspended from the ceiling, so every time your feet touch the ground it is actually — it’s not the same impact as it would be if you were to do a regular squat,” Reyes said. “So, squatting in this, you can squat, you can run, you can jump and there’s zero impact.”

Beach Babes also offers childcare for those who need to bring their little ones with them.

“The biggest part about this whole thing was to put a kid’s section into the gym, so that the single moms can come any time they wanted to,” Reyes said. “Or the new moms, we have baby hours in the morning, or anybody that just wants to come during the day or needs help with their children so that they can work out.”

Reyes said she took the time to make sure everything was safe to use.

Beach Babes also has a shower, sauna and plenty of gym equipment. They offer a $40 monthly membership that includes one group fitness class per day.
