In The Know is proud to celebrate women-owned businesses. During Women’s History Month, our team will highlight a new women-owned business each day. We encourage you to support today and beyond.

There’s power in where you spend your money. For every thing you buy, there’s a business — and business owner — that benefits. And every cent counts, especially when it comes to new or small businesses.

If you want to support women entrepreneurs, there are countless women-owned brands out there. And you can start with filling up your kitchen. From snacks and drinks to dessert and dinner, shop these woman-owned food and beverage brands below. They’re all seriously delicious and worth stocking up on.

Baked by Melissa

Baked By Melissa creates the most delicious, mini cupcakes. Founder Melissa Ben-Ishay started the company after getting fired from her job as an assistant media planner in 2008. “On that day, I called my brother, and he told me, ‘Don’t worry, it’s the best thing that could ever happen to you.’ He was right,” she writes on the brand’s website.

With the help and encouragement of her family and friends, she created her signature mini tie-dye cupcakes, as well as cookie dough, s’mores and peanut butter cup flavors.

Baked by Melissa started selling cupcakes from a pickup window in the Soho neighborhood in New York City. It now has 14 locations and ships nationwide.

Egunsi Foods

New York City-based Egunsi Foods (pronounced a-goo-see) makes ready-to-heat soups, sauces and starters. Each item is inspired by the founder, ‘Yemisi Awosan’s, Nigerian heritage and the recipes she grew up eating.

‘Yemisi immigrated to the U.S. as a teenager. While away at college, she missed her mother’s Nigerian cooking, so she started cooking her family’s recipes on her own. Then, she moved to hosting dinner parties in her dorm room to introduce friends to West African cuisine and the meals of her childhood.

After college, she continued sharing her food, and word quickly spread. People started requesting batches of soup and catering. So, in 2017, after plenty of market testing and development, she officially launched Egunsi Foods

You can eat the soups on the go, hot or cold, and use the sauces to make a delicious breakfast, lunch or dinner. (The brand provides recipes on its site.) You’ll want to try it all, from the Mushroom Pepper Soup to the Obe Ata Soup (West African tomato soup) to the Ofada Sauce (green pepper sauce).

Omsom makes it easy to create restaurant-quality meals at home in under 30 minutes with its Asian dish starters.

Think of Omsom starters like a shortcut: They combine all the sauces, aromatics and seasonings you need to make a specific Asian dish, recipe provided. Just add your choice of protein and veggies.

Sisters and co-founders of Omsom, Vanessa and Kim Pham, are the daughters of Vietnamese refugees. The sisters grew up watching their mother cook everything from scratch.

“We started Omsom to bring proud, loud Asian flavors to your fingertips any day of the week, sitting in your pantry right between the tomato sauce and olive oil. No more diluted dishes, no more cultural compromise. Real deal Asian cuisine and communities are too damn delicious to deny,” the brand’s website reads.

The starters make dishes from both East Asian and Southeast Asian cuisines, like Korean Spicy Bulgogi, Vietnamese Lemongrass BBQ, Japanese Yuzu Misoyaki and more.
