Women Today luncheon to celebrate women's progress in Aiken

Sep. 29—The Aiken Standard is presenting a luncheon on Oct. 19 to celebrate women in business.

"The reason why we do this luncheon is just to bring women together through all walks of life," said Diane Daniell, advertising sales manager at the Aiken Standard. "Companies and governments are embracing the importance of increasingly bringing women into leadership roles, be it in business, in the military, in faith organizations, and beyond. This luncheon celebrates the progress women have made as well as the work still ahead for us to do."

The Women Today luncheon will feature Jane Jenkins Herlong, a motivation speaker and former Miss South Carolina. Herlong combines wisdom with humor in her motivational talks.

The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Newberry Hall.

Tickets are $25 and include a luncheon and a fashion show put on by Vikki's Boutique. Tickets can be purchased online as well as at the Aiken Standard, Vikki's Boutique, Ginger Bee Boutique, Fox and Lady, and Unique Expressions.

"Celebrating women today is more important than ever," Daniell said. " We now work in what were once predominantly male occupations. We are doctors, lawyers, astronauts, business owners, politicians, and CEO's of large corporations. We are also mothers, caregivers, and yes, we manage households. We make a difference today and every day, and the future is dependent on us."
