KEOKUK — The Southeastern Community College women's basketball team doesn't have a bonafide superstar, a player who can take over games and led the team to victory.

Yet halfway through the season, the Blackhawks are finding their groove and are in the thick of the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference race.

Two big victories last week has SCC back with a chance to grab one of the top seeds for the upcoming Region XI tournament.

Sophomore guard Antuanae Garrett played a key role in those victories for SCC, which is a big reason she was named the ICCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Starting the week against Ellsworth, Southeastern dominated for a blowout 69-48 win. Garrett led the Blackhawks in scoring with 16 points. Additionally, she had eight assists and pulled down five rebounds. Defensively, Garrett racked up six steals and added a block.

Following that outstanding all-around performance, Garrett came back with another great game. Taking a 78-73 win over an Iowa Lakes team receiving votes. Garrett scored a career-high 24 points, with nine points coming from the free-throw line. Playing both sides of the ball well, she added four more steals and another eight rebounds.

Southeastern is 4-3 in conference and in fifth place.

SCC faces a busy eight-day stretch, beginning with a 1 p.m. game Saturday against 19th-ranked Iowa Central at Fort Dodge. The Blackhawks host Spoon River College at 5 p.m. Monday at the Cardinal Stritch Gymnasium in Keokuk, then host second-ranked Kirkwood at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Blackhawks wraps up the rugged stretch of games with a 1 p.m. game Jan. 29 at Ellsworth.
