Women's March event to be held Saturday in Sioux Falls

Sioux Falls residents will join thousands across the country, rallying around the National Women's March for reproductive rights this Saturday.

The year's event is being modified into a rally instead of a march. The Women's Wave Rally is being held from noon to 2 p.m. at Fawick Park in downtown Sioux Falls.

Organizers Tiffany Campbell and Michele Brace are hoping to see 200 people come to the rally.

The rally's roster of speakers include Rep. Erin Healy (D-Sioux Falls), Planned Parenthood North Central States advocacy manager Kristin Hawyard, co-founder of Think 3D Vaney Hariri, a local OB-GYN and a volunteer with Justice Empowerment Network, the state's largest abortion fund.

"We are united in our commitment to freedom and dignity for all Americans and putting failed ‘leaders’ on notice- from Supreme Court Justices, to candidates running for state legislature and state-wide office, we will not stop marching, protesting, voting, running for office until ALL of our freedoms are protected," stated Campbell in a press release.

Participants are welcome to bring signs, but organizers politely ask signs not mention references to things like coat hangers and "The Handmaid's Tale" TV series to avoid harmful language and imagery.
