WonderWorks set to celebrate 25th anniversary
WonderWorks Orlando, the educational attraction operating inside an upside-down-looking building on International Drive, is preparing to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
Festivities are set for Saturday and will feature discounted tickets, giveaways, a roaming magician and appearances by its Professor Wonder mascot. The attraction recently has introduced two new exhibits, a digital ball wall and a Route 66-themed display.
They join a lineup of 100 hands-on STEM-oriented exhibits that includes Hurricane Shack, Bed of Nails, Bubble Lab, a glow-in-the-dark ropes course and the Astronaut Training Gyro. The attraction is also home to the Outta Control Magic Comedy Dinner Show.
On Saturday, the first 25 visitors will get free admission, WonderWorks says. Admission for other people that day will be $25.
According to the attraction’s website, the story behind the upside-down I-Drive structure involves a Professor Wonder experiment about tornadoes in a secret Bermuda Triangle lab. Things go awry, ripping the building out of the ground and landing “hundreds of miles away.”
As part of its 25th anniversary, WonderWorks is giving away a family pass to 25 families in need. Members of the community can nominate a deserving family by emailing profwonder@wonderworksonline.com. It’s also gathering photos, videos and memories from guests to share on its social media platforms. Submissions can be emailed to profwonder@wonderworksonline.com.
“We owe our success to the tourists, educators, and locals of Orlando, so we want to say thank you for supporting us over the past 25 years,” Brian Wayne, general manager at WonderWorks Orlando, said in a news release. “Looking forward to many more years of upside-down fun ahead.”
WonderWorks opened on March 4, 1998, by founder John Morgan. The brand now has locations in Panama City Beach; Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Branson, Missouri; and Syracuse, New York, too.
