Wonka, starring Timothée Chalamet as the title character, has confirmed its US streaming release date.

The musical prequel to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, a new take on Roald Dahl’s classic story, will be available to watch on Max from Friday, March 8.

This release is part of a new slate of Warner Bros. films coming to the streaming platform in the coming months, as reported by Deadline.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be released on February 27, and Dune: Part Two will be available to watch "this spring".

Wonka, which tells the origin story of the eccentric chocolatier, was released in cinemas in December, and has made $608 million at the box office worldwide.

While the film features an all-star British cast, including Olivia Colman, Hugh Grant and Rowan Atkinson, the announcement of the new streaming release will only be for US viewers.

As Max has not yet launched in the UK, there will be a longer wait for fans across the pond, but it is thought that the film will land on Sky Cinema at some point in the future.

However, UK audiences are still able to watch Wonka at home, after a digital release of the film in January.

The movie is available to rent for £15.99 or buy from £19.99 from Prime Video, iTunes and other digital retailers in the UK.

Meanwhile, Chalamet’s latest release is the aforementioned sequel to Dune, released on Friday, March 1, where he stars as Paul Atreides alongside Zendaya as Chani.

Joining the cast for the long-awaited second instalment of the science fiction epic are the likes of Austin Butler (Elvis), Florence Pugh (Oppenheimer) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit).

After the film’s world premiere in London last week, the first reviews from critics are in, and Dune: Part Two is currently sitting on a near-perfect score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wonka will be available to stream on Max from Friday, March 8.
