Woodbridge brings medical and health care to residents with new mobile unit

WOODBRIDGE – Hitting the roads around town this summer is a new mobile health vehicle equipped to offer medical and health care services to residents.

Woodbridge Health Department health care professionals and nurses will staff the vehicle providing wellness services, adult and child health exams, family planning services, childhood vaccines, blood lead screening tests, COVID and flu testing and vaccinations.

It also will offer pneumonia vaccines; health-related screenings for hearing, cholesterol, bone density, skin cancer, vision, stroke, blood pressure, weight, height and body mass index; glucose testing; fall risk assessments; children’s back-to-school physicals and preventative and health care educational services.

Mayor John E. McCormac and the Woodbridge Department of Health & Human Services recently launched the mobile health unit, which is equipped with the latest health care technologies, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Evergreen Senior Center in the Colonia section.

According to the mayor, the $300,000 Mobile Health Services Unit is being provided at no cost to taxpayers due to a philanthropic benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous.

The climate-controlled, 27-foot Ford E450 medical unit is equipped with two examination areas to serve patients in a general medicine and nursing capacity. In addition to the clinical spaces, the medical vehicle also is equipped with handicap access and an outdoor awning.

The list of stops will include senior centers, senior housing communities and neighborhoods, township community centers and facilities, along with the Mayor’s Summer concerts, the downtown Saturday Farmers’ Market at Parker Press Park and other community events, festivals and street fairs.
