Woodbridge police identify homicide victim found at Alegi Athletic Fields Tuesday morning

Woodbridge police have identified the deceased body that was found at Pease Road Playground and Alegi Athletic Fields Tuesday morning.

The victim was 33-year-old Rondell Atkinson of West Haven, police said in a news release Wednesday afternoon.

“Detectives from the Woodbridge Police Department and Connecticut State Police Central District Major Crime continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death and are seeking to locate his vehicle,” they said. “The vehicle is a grey 2016 Hyundai Sonata, 4-door sedan, bearing Connecticut Registration: BC15394.”

The 33-year-old was found on the property after a jogger reported finding a dead body around 6 a.m., Tuesday, police said.

The death is being ruled a homicide after police discovered gunshot wounds on Atkinson’s body.
