Woodland man dies and three others injured in Yolo County head-on crash, CHP says

A Woodland man died and three Shasta County residents were injured early Wednesday after their vehicles collided in a head-on crash on a rural Yolo County road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The fatal crash was reported shortly after 6 a.m. on Old River Road, just north of County Road 124, the CHP Woodland office announced in a news release.

The CHP said the Woodland man was driving a 2017 white Volkswagen sedan north on Old River Road as a 2023 white Ford pickup with three men from Cottonwood was heading in the opposite direction on the same road.

For unknown reasons, the two vehicles collided head-on, the CHP said. Both vehicles sustained major front-end damage. Authorities closed the road for about three hours as investigators worked at the scene.

The Volkswagen driver died from his injuries. The CHP said the three men in the Ford pickup suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken by ambulance to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

The ages of those involved in the crash were not available Wednesday. The Yolo County Coroner’s Office will release the Woodland man’s name after his family has been notified.

Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the fatal crash, which remained under investigation..
