Woodmeade Elementary placed on secured status after parent makes threats

Apr. 14—Woodmeade Elementary School was placed on secured status this morning after a parent entered the school and made threats, according to Decatur City Schools.

The parent entered the school at 1400 Ninth Ave. S.W. before 8 a.m., according to a DCS statement, and "refused to follow the protocols and directives of the staff and proceeded into the hallways. The parent then went to the principal's office, where the parent became combative and threatened to harm the principal."

The parent used obscenities in front of children and staff while leaving the building and threatened to return, according to the statement, and a warrant for the individual's arrest has been issued.

"We have extra police presence in and around the building today," DCS said. "Instruction is continuing as normal. Again, the students and staff are safe, and instruction, including state testing, is in process."
