Woodridge, STVM runners earn titles; Hudson, Revere, Stow, STVM, Twinsburg win in soccer

CROSS COUNTRY

37th annual Woodridge CVNP Invitational

Woodridge junior Reese Reaman placed first Saturday in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Invitational Girls White Division Race at Kendall Hills.

Reaman completed the 3.1-mile course in a time of 20:28.5 and led Woodridge to second in the team standings with 39 points. Eastwood topped the field with 34 points and Berea-Midpark was third with 86 points.

Woodridge’s Marissa Boone finished third, Joy McFarland was eight and Eloise Willett took ninth.

Teagan Barnett of Cuyahoga Falls finished 10th and Amelia Swain of Hudson placed 11th.

Woodridge also finished second in the Boys White Division Race with 44 points. Solon won the team title with 28 points and Summit Country Day was third with 64 points.

Solon senior James Howell finished first in the boys race in a time of 17:22.2 and Comets junior Josh Jiang was second in 17:36.2.

Woodridge’s Seth Singer finished third, Sam Su was fourth and Robbie Champa took sixth. Jacob Norton of Cuyahoga Falls was fifth.

Mogadore won team title in the Girls Maroon Division Race with 41 points. Norwayne was second with 99 points and Utica took third with 109 points.

Norwayne senior Jaylee Wingate finished first in the Girls Maroon Division Race with a time of 20:15.1. Mogadore’s Rachel Whetstone and Katie Lane went two-three.

The Boys Maroon Division Race featured Vinton County as the team champion with 109 points, with Mogadore taking second with 116 points and Utica placing third with 117 points.

Wauseon seniors Aidan Pena won the individual title in the Boys Maroon Division Race in 17:51.5 and senior teammate Jack Callan was second in 18:13.6. Coventry’s Tyson Denison crossed the finish line in fourth and Mogadore’s Alejandro Navarrete was 10th.

57th annual McQuaid Invitational

Senior Olivia Kindbom finished first in the McQuaid Invitational Girls Varsity A-2 Small Schools Race and led St. Vincent-St. Mary to the top spot in the team standings in a meet at Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, New York.

STVM’s girls team scored 47 points, Clymer-Sherman-Panama was second with 127 points and Addison took third with 165 points.

Kindbom won with a time of 18:28.3. STVM’s Camille Dunifer placed fourth and Anne Rea was ninth.

STVM finished third in the boys meet.

The McQuaid Invitational is the largest high school-sponsored cross-country meet in the United States with 23 high school races from 9 a.m. until around 5 p.m.

BOYS SOCCER

Revere 6, Streetsboro 0

Six second-half goals, including two by senior Ryan Hodgson, helped the state's top Division II team post a nonleague win in a Senior Day match at home on Saturday.

Seniors Desmond Johnston, Ryan Brown, Cooper Procyshyn and Jaden Yankovitz also each scored a goal for the Minutemen (11-1-1). Revere junior Jeffery Boyle had three assists, and senior Ryan Novak, senior Shay Makkar, sophomore AJ Catlett and Brown each had one assist.

Revere senior goalkeepers Connor Schultz and Ryan Cunningham recorded the shutout.

Senior Joey LaTrashe scored twice and junior Diego Pinto had a goal as the Fighting Irish won at Hoban. Nick Bertolini preserved the shutout in goal with five saves for the Irish (9-2-2).

Hudson 1, Toledo St. Francis DeSales 0

Sam Robledo scored a goal in the second half to lead the Explorers (11-1-1) to a win.

Twinsburg 5, Aurora 0

Sonny Scolaro's hat trick led the Tigers to a Suburban League crossover win. Evan Scheeman and Jarren Huehte also scored for Twinsburg (9-2-0).

Twinsburg 3, West Geauga 0

Jadyn Harris, Brenna Utrup and Arriah Gilmer scored one goal apiece to lead the Tigers (11-0-2).

Buchtel 47, Garfield 0

Stevie Diamond threw four touchdown passes and Wylie Cheairs rushed for three touchdowns to lead the host Griffins (3-4, 2-0) to a win over the Rams (2-5, 1-1) in a City Series game.

Buchtel’s Marcel Boyce Jr. caught two touchdown passes, and Dakota Taylor and Demetrious Coates each caught one TD pass.

Arman Gable grabbed two interceptions for the Griffins, Marques Turner had three tackles for loss and Jermaine James and Elijah Williams both had two tackles for loss.
