Worcester: 2 charged in theft of car with dog inside

WORCESTER — A Brookfield woman and Worcester man were arrested Monday in connection with a Saturday afternoon assault and carjacking in the Harding Street area.

Worcester police say a pet dog was briefly in the possession of the thief and later recovered.

About 3 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of a carjacking in the area of 220 Harding St. Officers determined a 67-year-old was man sitting in his parked SUV with his dog in the backseat when he was assaulted.

According to police, a woman entered the car and began striking the man in the head with her phone while attempting to steal the vehicle. The woman obtained control of the vehicle and drove away, nearly striking the victim.

The woman initially drove away with the dog in the vehicle, but she later dropped the dog off. An individual on Vernon Street located the dog and called the police, who returned the dog to the owner.

The man was treated for abrasions on his face.

About 7:45 a.m. Monday, an officer on patrol in the Eastern Avenue area received a Lojack hit indicating the stolen vehicle was in the area.

The officer located the parked Toyota on Patch Road - with two individuals who appeared to be sleeping inside the vehicle.

After speaking with the individuals and an investigation, police arrested Tiffany Flynn, 39, of Brookfield and Kyle Bailey, 40, of Worcester.

Flynn was charged with carjacking, two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a person over 60 and cruelty to animals.

Bailey was charged with receiving stolen property over $1,200.

Flynn and Bailey are scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon, according to the Worcester County District Attorney's office.
