Worcester detectives seek potential witnesses in Highland Street killing

WORCESTER — Detectives are seeking the public's assistance in the investigation of the fatal shooting on Highland Street Wednesday morning.

A man was gunned down in the area of Highland and Boynton streets, near Honey Farms. The shooting occurred about 8:20 a.m.

"If you were in the area during the time of the incident and are willing to provide a statement regarding what you observed, or if you have any video footage of the incident, please contact the Detective Bureau," police said.

Potential witnesses or others with information can call investigators at 508-799-8651 or send an anonymous text to 274637 TIPWPD.

Police made an arrest soon after the shooting. According to court records, the suspect, Samuel Peckham, told investigators he and another man had a verbal altercation that heightened.

Peckham told investigators the other man broke a window of his car, court records show. Peckham told investigators he had a weapon in his car, which he pointed at the victim and fired, hitting the victim in the chest, according to court records.

Peckham, 28, of Westborough, is licensed to carry a firearm, court records show.

The victim, 31, has not been publicly identified by police.

Peckham is charged with assault and battery with a firearm and armed assault to murder. He was arraigned in Central District Court hours after the shooting and ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Jan. 10.
